Iris On My Terrace

Iris On My Terrace

Iris on my terrace,

Warm petals sunned.

Red brilliance and frail petal greet me,

A reminder of life’s splendor

And impermanence.

Iris on my terrace,

Captive in your container,

Would that I could set you free,

Only to be firmly rooted elsewhere,

And no longer in my view.

Iris on my terrace,

Do you long for open sky?

Or is this display your gratitude

For the tender care of my hands?

I know which I choose as my truth.

Iris on my terrace,

Do you know joy?

For your array

Brings me more than solace,

And turns the grayest day bright.

Iris on my terrace,

A life silent,

Yet your blaze speaks loud,

And I hear you,

And cry of your beauty.
