The Hordes of Neverthen

The Hordes of Neverthen

They came to rend, and to suspend,

Light and life they would expend.

They craved cessation of all Creation,

The Hordes of Neverthen.

He saw the end, Prince of Otherwhen,

Forced to surrender, no payment tendered,

Would not make his knee to bend.

And he had his say, to make them pay,

The raving Hordes of Neverthen.

His piercing eye saw more than sky,

And earth and dappled glen.

For Time was nigh and would apply,

To princes and the Hordes of Neverthen.

From Outside they came and with biting flame,

They sought to bring amen,

And stake their claim and harm and maim,

The folk of Otherwhen.

Their chief was tall among them,

His mace burning darkly bright.

He made to strike down the Sun,

And bring eternal night.

But the Prince of Otherwhen,

Knew the Hidden Tales too well,

And smiled grim, though it be the end of him,

As he slyly crafted spell.

“Look here!”, said he, “You seek to be,

The beginning of the End.”

“But thee and me, we cannot flee,

The burgeoning time of Men.”

To our Fathers tell, and they heard him well,

The Mystery of Imagination, in us it still dwells.

Without our minds they’re left behind,

These Hordes of Neverthen.

And with the threat abated, he smiled and he faded,

Our Prince of Otherwhen.

Then the Hordes did pale, their conquest failed,

And they fell to ash and dust.

That was their end, thanks to Otherwhen,

And the dream that we still trust.

So, we still be, all you and me,

And Sun and stars ascend,

Should you look up, please raise a cup,

And breathe thanks to the Prince of Otherwhen.
