The cigarettes were just beyond arms reach.
His back was turned.
She did not need them.
She would have to lean.
She told herself they were a gift from God.
God helps those that help themselves…
That’s what the preacher says.
The bills got a little more burdensome every month.
She took a part time job.
The cash register was convenient.
God helps those that help themselves.
That’s what the preacher said.
Her new boyfriend admired her ability to adapt.
He showed her how to sell cocaine.
She made a lot of money.
Cocaine soon sells itself.
Her children had everything they could want.
Everything except a mother.
She O.D.’d last Tuesday.
Her oldest has the most wonderful ability to adapt.
He takes care of his little sisters.
He steals cars for a living.
The cops are waiting for him to turn 18.
God helps those that help themselves.
That’s what the preachers say.
Go ahead, help yourself.
What could go wrong?
